DAAD Scholarships and Grants

DAAD Study and Research Scholarships in Academic Fields

About

Highly qualified final year undergraduate students (graduating seniors) or those who have received an undergraduate degree of all disciplines may apply for the DAAD Study Scholarship for a year of independent study or a full master's degree program at a German university. 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Students in their last year of undergraduate studies at an accredited US or Canadian university.
  • US or Canadian citizens or permanent residents. 
  • Foreign nationals who live in the USA or in Canada by the time of application deadline are eligible, if your last degree was obtained in the US/Canada, or you will have received a degree in the US/Canada before your scholarship starts. All other foreign nationals may need to apply via a different DAAD office.
  • Recent BA/BS or MA/MS graduates who completed their last degree no longer than 6 years ago.
  • US/Canadian students in the first year of a master’s degree program in Germany may apply to fund their second year.
  • Applicants may not have been living in Germany for more than 15 consecutive months by the time of application deadline.
Terms of Award
  • Study Scholarships are granted for one academic year (10 months) with the possibility of a one-year extension for those wishing to completing a full degree program in Germany.
  • Funding periods are restricted to the exact dates of the German academic year (October 1, 2018 to July 31, 2019).
  • Results will be announced mid-April

DAAD Research Grants

Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists are awarded to highly qualified candidates who have completed a Master's degree or Diplom, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor's degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant-supported research, or those who have already completed a PhD (postdocs), or to individuals wishing to earn a doctoral degree in Germany,

DAAD Study Scholarship

For highly qualified final year undergraduate students or those who have received an undergraduate degree of all disciplines for a full master's degree program at a German university, or for study at a German university as part of a postgraduate or Master's degree program completed in the home country.

Campus Application Procedures for the DAAD Study Scholarship or Research Grant. 

For both awards, applicants should submit the first 6 documents listed below in one continuous pdf document by the campus deadline. 

1. Draft Online Application Form. See instructions above for information about the two awards. Initiate an application in the DAAD portal. Students interested in applying should contact Paul Fogleman (pfoglema@iu.edu) for instructions on how to create a pdf of your application in the DAAD applicaiton portal. 

2. CV/Résumé

3. Draft Study Proposal

4. Description of Contact with German Institution

5. DAAD Language Evaluation Form (Sprachzeugnis) - this is optional at the time of the campus deadline.

6. Unofficial transcript(s).

7. Have 1 Letter of Recommendation sent by email to the campus coordinator: pfoglema@indiana.edu


DAAD Study Scholarships in Arts

No IU deadline.

National deadline: October 31, 2017

About

These scholarships aim to provide highly qualified students in music, performing arts, visual art and architecture with an opportunity to complete a program of additional studies, with or without earning a formal degree, at a German institute of higher education.

The eligibility requirements, terms of award and application procedures for applicants in the arts are similar to those for the academic scholarships. More information about scholarships in the creative and performing arts available at this DAAD webage.
